How to Protect Yourself

Cybersecurity doesn't require technical expertise โ€” it requires awareness and consistent habits that dramatically reduce your risk.

1
Use Strong, Unique Passwords

Never reuse passwords. Use a reputable password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password) and generate long random strings. Never share OTPs โ€” no bank or government agency asks for OTPs.

2
Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Add a second layer to all important accounts โ€” especially email and banking. Use authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy) over SMS codes when possible.

3
Think Before You Click

Hover over links before clicking. Verify sender email addresses. Scammers use lookalike domains (sbi.bank.co, aadhaar-update.in). When in doubt, go directly to official websites.

4
Keep Software Updated

Security patches fix known vulnerabilities. Enable automatic updates on Android/iOS, browsers, and apps. Never install APKs from unknown sources.

5
Secure Your UPI & Banking

Register on the 1930 portal immediately after any fraud. Block your card the same day. Never share CVV, card number, or net banking passwords on phone calls.

6
Back Up Your Data (3-2-1 Rule)

3 copies, 2 different media, 1 offsite or cloud. Best defence against ransomware. Use Google One, iCloud, or an external drive.
